(Ishmael's First Day in the Inner City)
AUTHOR'S NOTE: If you are NOT interested in detailed exposition, which I totally understand, you can just click on the first image and then keep clicking to move through the actual fights.
I wake up pretty early in the morning as this is going to be
an exciting day. Though I have
thoroughly enjoyed my time here in the Outer City, I have decided at long last
to make my way through The Wall and into the fabled Inner City. My bed companion, Penelope, is sound asleep
so I leave her to continue resting as she is no doubt exhausted from the two
violent fights she won last night, and Doctor Green and I quietly set out into
the morning haze. The defeated Trixie
is no longer sprawled across the top of the garbage dumpster, and has almost certainly
been carted off to the Hospital by a body runner. She will wake up in a
hospital bed in a day or two, and will probably at some point make an attempt
to get revenge on Penelope for the NASTY beating she took in front of me and I
can’t wait to see how that goes, but for now it is time to move on, as this is
going to be an exciting day!
It is around 6:30 am when we step out the door and the sun
is just starting to peek out over the city. I suggest having breakfast at Alice n’ Mel’s one
last time before making our way towards the big gate. Over breakfast, Doctor Green and I discuss
where we should go first in the Inner City.
Initially I thought I would do a rapid tour, and try to
squeeze in a visit to every venue in the Inner City before the end of the day,
but eventually we decide to start out by spending the day at The Junior FightRing. It is the least violent of all the
venues in the Inner City and I feel like a good place to start and after that
we can spend one day at each venue, perhaps working our way through them in
order from least to most violent. Doctor
Green messages the management of the Junior Fight Ring (JFR for short) to let
them know we are coming and as usual the proprietors are quite pleased to hear
it as our attendance will ensure immediately sold out seating and also I will of course be offering my
services as a sex trophy for the winners of each bout.
They ask us to get there a little earlier then 9:00 am, as they would like to go
over some special arrangements for our visit.
I pay our tab for breakfast (not that Doctor Green actually eats
anything) and we make our way to the Wall.
Though I intend to spend the next few days at least exploring the Inner
City, I am quite sure I will be back out here soon enough, and this little
diner has become one of my favorite places to be. Not only is the food delicious, and
reminiscent of the sort of fare I
enjoyed back in the 21st Century, just hanging out here always offers a welcome
respite from the constant drudgery of pleasing one victorious female fighter
after another. Hopefully there will be a
similar establishment in the Inner City.
Green Tower City Boulevard cuts a straight swath directly towards the Wall and it doesn’t take us too long to get there. Though there are several small gates along the full length of the massive structure for fighters, workers and permanent residents of the Inner City to pass in and out of, there is only one large entrance for spectators, right in the dead center of the Wall, and it is easy to see from even quite a distance. As we make our way towards the looming gateway I feel a little like Dorothy Gale on her way to the Emerald City. Though starting out so early gave us a slightly quieter morning, there is by now a decent throng of women following us, and they will no doubt be the first spectators in the door once the JFR opens its doors for business. This constant entourage made me nervous at first, but after having been in the Inner City now for nearly two months, I realize that NOBODY dares mess with me. The ever present City Moderators would set upon and annihilate anyone who tried to do me harm. It’s weird being such a treasured commodity, but these strange women of the future continue to let me go where I want and do what I want, and honestly, there are certainly much worse fates that could have befallen an astronaut out of time. I mean, at least I didn’t come back to find the world overrun with talking apes or some shit, right?
“She must not be of age yet.
They still try!” Doctor Green says.
“Will she get in trouble?”
I ask my robotic companion, feeling a bit sorry for the girl.
“Not at all, but there’s no way she will get in here until exactly
midnight on the date of her 18th birthday. If she signs up for a so
called “Birthday Girl Death Match, she will be allowed into the city 24 hours
earlier, but we will talk about that more when we get around to visiting the
Poison Lair, the most violent of the Inner City’s venues.”
Once we step out of the Archway we find ourselves in a large
concrete plaza with several openings for trees and giant ferns, and in the
middle of it all a massive circular fountain in the middle of which stands a
huge stone statue of a victorious female fighter with her foot on a defeated spread
eagled opponent. The water is dyed red
so as it flows through the spickets and spouts, it look like endless streams of
blood flowing from her vanquished opponent.
Again Doctor Green fills me in.
“That’s Zelda, the famous female wrestler for whom the
continent is named. He starts to go into more detail but a group of smiling GTC
officials are quickly closing the gap between
themselves and us.
“Welcome Ishmael!
Welcome Doctor Green! We have
been anxiously awaiting your arrival to our fair city!”
They proceed to escort us along the streets and avenues
towards the JFR, letting us know along the way that we don’t have to worry
about lodging, as the entire top floor of The GTC Hotel Grande has been
reserved just for us, and we can stay as long as we want. It’s a little annoying because I had hoped to
explore the streets a bit in peace on my way to the venue, but I’m sure I will
have plenty of time to do that later.
(description of the walk to the venue)
The atmosphere in the Junior Fight Ring is electrified. It has been over a hundred years since anyone
got to see two women fighting over a man, and none of these people had been
born yet
We are escorted to a private viewing area just a few feet
away from the small squared circle. This
little booth is equipped with a its own enclosed bathroom, and a very
comfortable reclining chair that can recline all the way back into a bed, I
assume for the convenience of pleasuring the victors of the battles I am about
to witness. which has hastily been constructed clearly exclusively for me.
On the opposite side of the ring from me is a small wooden desk. This is the lor Commentator table, and they are about to begin the day’s festivities.
What is the next story in line?
