THE WALL
A
50 foot wall that runs from coast to coast of the peninsula that Green Tower
City inhabits; it divides the Inner City from the Outer City. One of the three ways a girl can become a pro
fighter in the city (and by far the most popular) is to enter by entering a fight
room. Any girl who is at least 18 years
of age can do this. She enters by way of
one of a dozen entry stations located at various points on the Outer City side
of the Wall. Inside she turns over all her possessions and strips naked. She submits to a vigorous body cavity search,
x-ray and drug screening and if that is satisfactory, is given a clean pair of
white cotton panties. She then enters a
waiting room. As soon as another fighter
is ready, the two girls are put in a padded room where they fight until only
one is conscious. The winner is given
her pro fighter’s card, her possessions back, and 200 credits. The loser has “LOSER” branded across her
stomach with a hot iron, is given any medical attention she requires to
survive, given her possessions back, and is released back into the Outer
City. She will never again be allowed to
attempt an initiation fight, though she can enter as a paying spectator. (For most, the humiliation is too great and
they are never heard from again.) These
fights are not recorded and do not go on the fighter’s official pro
record.
