A Birthday Girl Death Match is one of the most beloved events in Green Tower City, and is one of the four ways a girl can acquire Pro Fighter Status in the Inner City. These matches are, as indicated, fights to the death, and take place at notorious Inner City venue: The Poison Lair.
If a girl is within a couple days of turning 18, she can announce her intention to take part in a Birthday Girl Death Match, which will occur at exactly midnight on the day of her 18th birthday. (Thus, the even of her 18th birthday is the one and only day a girl who is not quite yet 18 years of age is ever allowed to even enter the Inner City.)
She can issue a challenge to a specific fighter, who can either accept or refuse, or she can take on someone from the "Challenge Board" which is a list of names the Poison Lair keeps of girls who have volunteered to accept Birthday Girl challengers.
In most cases, the fighters are called to the center of the ring for breast to breast face off 3 minutes to midnight. They are asked if they wish to proceed, and this is their final opportunity to back out, though a fighter who does so is never allowed to return to the Inner City. Once both fighters have agreed, they are to return to their corners and wait for the bell, which is rung at precisely midnight. A girl who wins her Birthday Girl Death Match earns an incredible aunt of respect at the beginning of their fighting career, not to mention 10,000 credits plus their pro fighter's card.
To date, only 3 girls have succeeded in winning a Birthday Girl Death Match. The first was Harmony, who killed Goldie on 7-4-2474, Beth, who killed Desiree on 2-20-2475, and Emily who killed Yolanda on 4-7-2477.
